Our Mission

The Junior Women’s Club of Verona, Inc. is a versatile organization that has been involved in social and charitable work in the community since our inception in 1926. In just the past year, our nearly 60 active members worked with Verona’s local government, businesses, schools, and community members on over 20 successful initiatives.

What we’ve been up to this past year:

  • During our 10th annual Verona Fights Hunger Week, we collected 1,700 bags of food and raised $9,000 in monetary donations. All went directly to fighting suburban poverty in our area.

  • Our Packs With Purpose drive collected backpacks, filled with school supplies, which were distributed to local children in need.

  • We awarded three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors that live in Verona and will attend an accredited degree-based higher education program.

  • We hosted our annual 4th and 5th grade Spelling Bee, sending the three winners on to the district level.

  • Our last tricky tray raised over $30,000 that the Juniors re-invested in the community: including making a $10,000 donation to the Verona Rescue Squad.

  • We hosted Bunny Brunch to bring Easter joy to local families.

  • After learning of children in town battling cancer, we provided donations directly to the families.

  • We partnered with the town to run a Fall-O-Ween festival.

  • Our Wish Trees campaign allowed us to collect holiday gifts for Verona's Adopt a Family program.

  • To raise awareness of child abuse, we planted pinwheels at the library and police department, and additionally provided information on how to identify and report abuse.

We couldn’t make this kind of an impact without involving our families and our community. The work we do is almost always family friendly, with hours and activities that consider kids, crazy work schedules, and the endless list of commitments that come with both. We also forge strong relationships across our town, which has proven to be a stepping stone for many of our members who then go on to become community leaders. Our club not only fosters our member’s individual growth but also helps build the confidence necessary to run successful large-scale events as a team.

The GFWC Emblem and it's Meaning

GFWC’s emblem depicts a circular band signifying eternity. In the center of the circular band, the crusader's shield emerges from a darkened world (represented by the field of darkness), which represents enlightenment. The enameled colors—red, white, and blue—are the colors of the United States of America. The red implies courage, the white equals purity, and the blue stands for constancy.
